Anthony Joshua, the British boxing star, survived a car crash on Monday that tragically took the lives of his friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. The accident occurred on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria, an area notorious for dangerous driving conditions. Traveling as a rear-seat passenger, Joshua ended up with minor injuries and currently stays at Duchess International Hospital.
The incident resulted from a blown tire at excessive speed, according to Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps reports. It shook many who know Joshua well, including his uncle Adedamola. He expressed disbelief by stating how unexpected the news came to their family.
In response to the accident, Anthony Joshua gave profound thoughts about life and death. In an emotional address, he shared his evolved views on what truly matters.
"I just look at life and I'm like man... this is crazy. All of this stuff, believe it or not is a big distraction, in my opinion. Because in the grand scheme of things, everything that I chase and everything that I want to own to make me feel relevant on this earth, is not so important, because I can't take it with me."
Joshua reflected further about life's fleeting nature:
"All that's guaranteed is death. All that's going to be important is just living to the best of our capability. Ain't it mad how fast life will go? We'll be old, and one day all that will matter is living to the best of our capability."
Currently experiencing a stable health status with only minor injuries bring relief during tough times. Hospital authorities imposed visiting restrictions given Joshua's global stature.
Meanwhile, Anthony’s mother Yeta Odusanya rushed to Nigeria upon receiving information about her son's involvement in the crash.
Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi of Nigeria Police confirmed their investigation found fault in excessive speed causing a tire burst which ultimately resulted in losing two precious lives too soon. This tragic event serves as another reminder about road safety concerns within Nigeria's challenging infrastructure environment as reported by Boxing King Media.
