Former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs shared his thoughts on a potential fight between WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight titleholder Oleksandr Usyk and Deontay Wilder.
“I like this fight. I think Deontay deserves this match. He has knocked out very many fighters, was a great champion in the sense that he defended the title, had many exciting fights where a knockout could happen at any second. If he is chosen for voluntary defense, then why not? He deserves it. Wilder will work hard.
People are ruling out Wilder after losses to Parker and Zhang. Yes, that’s boxing, but it takes just one punch, especially in heavyweight. If anyone can knock out an opponent with one punch, it's Wilder. Who knows what would happen if he stuns Usyk? It will be amazing to watch this fight. And I want to fight him after this,” Briggs said in an interview with the YouTube channel iFL TV.
Recall that Usyk previously stated he wants to fight Wilder in his next match.
