Jake Paul seems unable to stay away from the spotlight, with yet another boxing event penciled in for December. The arranged bout against Anthony Joshua injects a twist of unpredictability into Paul's boxing journey after his initial opponent, Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, dropped out due to a civil lawsuit.
Gervonta Davis faced legal issues that dismantled the originally scheduled fight between him and Jake Paul. Allegations of assault found their way to court in Miami-Dade County, forcing Paul and his promoter MVP Promotions into quick action. Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of MVP Promotions, shared insights into the scramble that followed. Explaining how they canvassed the sport for replacements, he noted that while many were considered—including Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford—Anthony Joshua made the cut.
"The three names Jake gravitated towards were Ryan Garcia, Terence Crawford, and Anthony Joshua," said Bidarian. "And there were probably 30 fighters who accepted to fight Jake."
MVP Promotions quickly scrapped the initial Davis fight plan, yet remained adamant on keeping Jake Paul active before year's end. Their commitment led to nearly thirty other fighters expressing interest in stepping up against Paul.
"Choosing Anthony Joshua signals Paul's desire to be taken seriously not only as a showman but as a competitor,"said a source close to the negotiations.
The new matchup slated for December presents an interesting dynamic with both fighters bringing different skill sets to the ring. While Joshua possesses high global recognition thanks to his significant strength and knockout power, observers have pointed out that he's slower than Davis and perhaps less skilled.
The conditions for the bout are clear and defined—an eight-round contest set at three minutes per round with each fighter donning 10-ounce gloves. Joshua's maximum permissible weight comes in at 245 pounds for this encounter.
Looking ahead, Jake Paul's leap into professional boxing continues as both a spectacle and a serious claim towards legitimacy within the sport. Fans will closely watch how this opportunity evolves through MVP Promotions until both Paul and Joshua face off under bright lights come December.
