Kell Brook, the former world champion, recently opened up about his challenging path to sobriety, crediting Ebanie Bridges, known as 'The Blonde Bomber' in boxing circles, for guiding him through. He admitted he felt "possessed by a demon" at one point, a metaphor for his struggles with addiction and depression.
Brook faced tough battles off the ring but found an anchor in Bridges. Speaking candidly about his journey, Brook expressed deep gratitude for her support. He shared with Fox Sports Australia how Bridges played a pivotal role in steering him away from addiction.
"She's been through a lot in her own life battles, and she's guided me to where I am today: clean, sober and living a beautiful life," Brook shared. "Today I have a purpose in life. I'm in God's hands and I feel great."
Bridges’ media-savvy presence adds a spotlight to their relationship which became public earlier this year with the announcement of their child, Ezerra Ray. Her influence marks a significant turning point in Brook's life after years of grappling with personal demons.
Reflecting on the journey they've embarked on together, Bridges notes the value of connection and mutual support during hardships. She spoke about how hearing Brook's acknowledgment made her feel appreciated.
"It made me feel valued and it was really nice to hear, and for him to make it public," she stated.
Brook's narrative is reminiscent of other sports figures like Ricky Hatton who also dealt with the ramifications of addiction. However, unlike those stories that didn't end well without proper help, Bridges' intervention offered Brook a new path forward.
Their story shines as one of redemption and love, showcasing how profound support systems can facilitate recovery from even the darkest times. The couple’s bond highlights resilience forged through shared experiences and adversity intertwined with hope.
