Terence Crawford's Bold Challenge to Canelo Álvarez: "I'll Show You What Real Boxing Is"

Ronald Crawley Sept. 15, 2025, 11:10 p.m.

Crawford, nearly 38 years old, handled the weight jump perfectly. He outboxed Canelo throughout the fight, winning by unanimous decision. The judges scored the bout 116-112 and 115-113 twice, all in Crawford's favor.

The victory made Crawford a world champion in five different weight divisions. He's now an undisputed champion in two weight classes, having moved up from 135 pounds to 168 pounds during his career. This win cements Crawford's place among the greatest boxers in history.

"A lot of people kept saying that what I was trying to accomplish was impossible, and I just kept saying, 'It's impossible until somebody does it,'"

Crawford told the Patt McAfee Show after his victory.

Canelo, the Mexican superstar from Jalisco, never found his rhythm during the fight. The loss marks one of the saddest days for Mexican boxing, as Canelo lost all of his super middleweight titles in a night to forget.

A rematch between Crawford and Canelo remains uncertain. Crawford's clear dominance over Canelo makes it hard to justify, but business considerations might lead to a second fight in 2026.
