Canelo's Next Opponent Revealed, But Fight Date Remains a Mystery: "It's Complicated"

Canelo's deal with Riyadh Season includes four fights, with the chance to add a fifth in 2026. They might even stretch the agreement into 2027 if things go well.

The champ's schedule sticks to two important dates for Mexican fans. He'll step into the ring each May to mark the Battle of Puebla and again in September to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day. Fans are already looking forward to his next fight on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

But who will Canelo face? Christian Mbilli, the new super middleweight star, could be in the mix. Mbilli, with 29 wins and 24 knockouts, is fighting tonight in Las Vegas. We'll have to wait and see if his name comes up after the main event.

There's also talk about a rematch with Dmitry Bivol. The Russian light heavyweight handed Canelo his second loss, and Alvarez wants another shot before he hangs up his gloves. If it happens, Canelo will move up to light heavyweight for the fight.

Even Jake Paul's name has popped up as a possible opponent, though that seems less likely.

"Canelo still has the energy to continue in the ring," a source close to the fighter said. "Mexican fans have more chances to cheer on their champion."

With these exciting matchups on the horizon, boxing fans can't help but wonder: Who will Canelo Alvarez face in 2026? Will it be the rising star Mbilli, the tough Bivol, or someone else entirely? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure – Canelo's not slowing down anytime soon.
