Deontay Wilder wants to fight Anthony Joshua before he hangs up his gloves. The 39-year-old heavyweight boxer isn't ready to call it quits just yet.
Wilder recently got back in the win column with a seventh-round stoppage over Tyrrell Herndon. This victory ended a rough patch for the former WBC heavyweight champion.
Some fans think Wilder should think about retiring. They say he's not the same fighter he used to be when he held the WBC title. But Wilder doesn't see it that way.
In a chat with The Fighter's Voice, Wilder made it clear he's not done yet. He's got his sights set on a big fight with Anthony Joshua.
"Most definitely [the AJ fight will happen]… we're still in it and we're still active and we're gonna meet each other."
Wilder sounds upbeat about boxing's current state. He thinks there are good things happening in the sport.
"You know it's a lot of great things that has been going on in boxing you know with different people that's getting involved and making the best fights happen at this appropriate time, you know and I'm looking forward to it all."
The American boxer isn't looking to slow down. He's got a plan and he's sticking to it.
"I don't have no time to take no steps back, you know we have a strategic plan that we have planned set for and we're following along with it but if we have to take certain shortcuts and certain things we will do so. I am a veteran in this business at this moment in time and I love every bit of it."
On the other side, Joshua's last fight didn't go his way. He lost to Daniel Dubois by knockout in the fifth round back in September 2024.
A fight between Wilder and Joshua has been talked about for years. Now, it looks like it might finally happen. Both fighters have faced ups and downs, but this matchup still gets fans excited.
An unnamed heavyweight who's fought both men has given his take on how this fight might go. With both Wilder and Joshua looking to prove they've still got it, this could be a real barnburner if it comes together.
