Manny Pacquiao's next opponent might be Rolando Romero. Bob Arum, the legendary boxing promoter, thinks Romero is the perfect choice for Pacquiao's next fight.
Pacquiao just came back to boxing after four years away. He fought Mario Barrios for the WBC world welterweight championship on July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight ended in a majority decision draw, but many fans and experts thought Pacquiao did enough to win.
Even though he's 46 years old, Pacquiao wants to keep boxing. He's aiming to become a world champion again. That's where Arum's suggestion comes in.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Arum said:
"You know, again, I think Manny would be competitive with any of those people and I think Romero who is less of a boxer than this guy that Manny just fought would be ideal for Manny, and I give Manny a good chance to win against Romero."
Arum believes Pacquiao can compete with any top fighter. He thinks Romero's style suits Pacquiao better than Barrios' did. Romero isn't as much of a boxer as Barrios, which could play into Pacquiao's hands.
Romero, who's 29 and from Las Vegas, is the current WBA welterweight champion. He won the title on May 2 when he beat Ryan Garcia by unanimous decision. It was Romero's best performance so far, and he even knocked Garcia down in the second round.
Pacquiao's recent draw with Barrios showed he can still compete at a high level. Now, with Arum suggesting Romero as the next opponent, fans might soon see if the Filipino boxing icon can reclaim a world title at 46 years old.
