Oleksandr Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium, London, to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
The Ukrainian fighter now holds all four major belts - WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF - making him the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. Usyk's victory marks his second time as undisputed heavyweight champion and his third time as an undisputed champion overall, including his reign in the cruiserweight division.
Usyk first held all four world titles in May 2024 but had to vacate the IBF belt. His win against Dubois allowed him to reclaim the missing piece of his heavyweight crown.
Former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis shared his thoughts on Dubois's performance. Lewis pointed out that Dubois struggled to land clean shots on Usyk due to the champion's excellent movement.
"He was overcommitting," Lewis said. "He wanted this fight so bad. He wanted to get to Usyk but he couldn't. Usyk is a great mover, a great champion and figured him out. That keep moving thing he does works, especially against big pinchers. When you try and line him up he's not there."
Despite the loss, Lewis believes Dubois still has a future in boxing. He added:
"He's still young in my eyes and he can still come back. That is a tough loss but he can still come back."
Usyk's victory cements his status as one of boxing's elite champions. His unique fighting style, characterized by constant movement, proved too much for Dubois to handle.
The Ukrainian fighter has already revealed his first choice for his next opponent, though details weren't provided in the initial report.
For Dubois, this loss serves as a learning experience. The young boxer will need to work on his ability to cut off the ring and avoid overcommitting if he wants to compete at the highest level of heavyweight boxing.
