Mike Tyson has shared his top 5 current fighters, giving fans a glimpse into the boxers he thinks are the best in the sport right now.
The 58-year-old New York City native knows a thing or two about boxing. Tyson started his pro career in 1985 with a bang, winning his first 19 fights by stoppage, 12 of them in the first round. He grabbed his first world title in 1986 by knocking out Trevor Berbick in the second round, making him the youngest heavyweight champion ever. By 1987, at just 21 years old, Tyson had become the undisputed champ, holding the WBC, WBA, and IBF titles.
On the "Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru and Henry" show, Tyson revealed his top 5 current fighters. His list includes David Benavidez, the WBC light-heavyweight champ who got bumped up from Interim champion in April. Gervonta 'Tank' Davis also made the cut. Davis might face Shakur Stevenson soon in what could be a huge fight.
Speaking of Stevenson, he's on Tyson's list too, but with a catch. Tyson thinks Stevenson needs to face tougher opponents to really prove himself.
Terence 'Bud' Crawford also got a nod from Tyson. Crawford's got a big fight coming up against Canelo Alvarez in September that's got everyone talking.
Last but not least, Tyson picked Errol Spence. About Spence, Tyson said:
"I still think he can come back and get his title back, I really think so, I think he's such an underrated fighter."
Spence's future in the ring isn't clear right now. He took a hard loss to Crawford, and fans are waiting to see what he'll do next.
With Davis and Stevenson possibly squaring off soon, and Crawford set to fight Alvarez, boxing fans have got some exciting matches to look forward to. Tyson's list gives us a peek into what one of boxing's greats thinks about today's top fighters.
