Jake Paul took a jab at Ryan Garcia after Garcia's tough loss to Rolly Romero. The YouTuber-turned-boxer waited for Garcia's fight to end before posting a sharp response on social media.
Paul and Garcia used to be friends. Paul even trained Garcia at one point. But their relationship went south when Garcia started making offensive comments about Paul. Garcia called Paul "illegitimate" in boxing and said he could fight Paul "when he ran out of veterans."
Garcia told USA Today Sports: "I don't know if he's a boxer... He's never fought in a ranked fight in his category. I don't even know what his category is, I don't know if he's heavyweight, I don't know. He's cruiserweight, I think. So I can't say he's legitimate."
After Garcia lost to Romero in what's been called the bitterest defeat of his career, Paul didn't hold back. He posted a picture of Garcia on the canvas on his Instagram Stories with the message: "Irony always wins."
Paul, known as the "Problem Child," is getting ready for his own fight. He'll face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Chavez Jr. is almost 40 and not in his prime anymore, so a win for Paul might not turn many heads.
But if Paul loses to Chavez Jr., it could be even more embarrassing than Garcia's recent defeat. Paul's got a reputation for being cocky, but he's working hard for this upcoming fight.
Both Paul and Garcia have shown their fair share of arrogance. Garcia cried in a van backstage in Times Square after his loss to Romero. Now, he'll have to deal with the fallout from his defeat and Paul's cutting response.
