Canelo Alvarez, the four-division world champion boxer, just made a bold claim about golf legend Tiger Woods. The boxer's comment comes at a tough time for Woods, who's dealing with a string of setbacks in his career.
Alvarez got into golf during the COVID-19 pandemic and now plans to go pro after he hangs up his boxing gloves. When asked if he could beat Woods at golf or if Woods could beat him in boxing, Alvarez didn't hold back.
"I think that question is out of the world. Because I'm never going to beat him in golf and he's never going to beat me in boxing. Let me tell you something. I can play golf, [but] he can't play boxing. That's the difference."
Alvarez's words pack a punch, especially considering Woods' current struggles. The fifteen-time Major winner has dropped to 1341st in the Official World Golf Ranking after a long absence from the PGA Tour. Woods held the top spot for years, but now he's facing some serious challenges.
An Achilles injury during training forced Woods to pull out of the 2025 Masters at Augusta National. His last competition didn't go well either - he missed the cut at The Open Championship in July 2024. Now, he's expected to sit out the rest of the 2025 season.
Alvarez's comment has made headlines, adding another layer to Woods' already tough year. The timing of the statement couldn't be worse for the golf star, who's working hard to get back on top of his game.
