Edgar Berlanga Jr. says he'll get another shot at Canelo Alvarez. The super middleweight contender lost to Canelo last September but believes they have unfinished business.
Canelo Alvarez has fought almost 70 times since turning pro at 15. Now 34, the fighter from Guadalajara holds world titles in four weight classes. He's currently the unified WBC, WBA and WBO world champion at super-middleweight.
Alvarez will fight William Scull next for the IBF super-middleweight belt. A win will make him undisputed champion at 168lbs again.
Berlanga told the Cigar Talk program he knows what he needs to do to get the rematch:
"I just gotta beat [Jaime] Munguia. We fight Munguia I'm gonna knock him the f**k out, he's giving me that rematch. Because the fans are gonna call for it. The fans know it's unfinished business, that chapter with me and him is not closed, I promise you."
Berlanga doubled down on his prediction:
"I told you the last time I'm gonna fight Canelo right? I'm gonna tell you right now, the chapter is not closed between me and him, we need to run that back. But, for me to run that back, I gotta make a mark, I gotta knock Munguia out. Even if I gotta fight Plant and knock Plant out, and then we talk."
Berlanga knocked out Jonathan Ortiz in the first round on March 15. He might fight Jaime Munguia next, but Munguia has to get past Bruno Surace on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia first.
