Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach are getting ready for another fight this summer. Their first match in March ended in a draw, and now everyone's talking about what'll happen next.
Claressa Shields, a boxing champion herself, has some thoughts on the rematch. She spoke to Fighthype about both fighters:
"I think that Tank is a great fighter and Roach is a great fighter. They both had a good fight. I think Tank is going through things that we don't know what he's going through mentally…I wish him well and I think if he gets his mental together he'll fight better."
The first fight between Davis and Roach was close. One judge scored it for Davis, while two others called it even. There was some drama when Davis took a knee in the ninth round, but it wasn't counted as a knockdown. If it had been, Roach might've won the WBA lightweight title.
Shields was impressed by how Roach handled Davis' punches. She said:
"I think if Roach would have been more aggressive he would have won the fight clearly. I think he had some good counters, I've never seen somebody take punches from Tank and be able to still stand up. I don't think I saw Roach get wobbled at all, I think I saw Tank get wobbled a couple times. I'll be watching the rematch."
When it comes to the rematch, Shields thinks Roach might have the edge. She told Fight Hub TV:
"I think Lamont will be even better in the rematch … Right now, I think Roach wins the rematch, only because I think Tank needs to get his fear out the way."
But Shields believes Davis could win if he sorts out some personal issues. She suggested:
"Sometimes anger helps you in a fight, you don't want to completely lose it, you have to know how to use it. He's so frustrated with other parts of his life that it's hard for him to use all of it inside the ring. So I think therapy would help."
Shields isn't the only one with an opinion on this fight. Tim Bradley, who's won world titles in two weight classes, has also shared his thoughts on what might happen.
The boxing world will be watching closely when Davis and Roach step into the ring again. It's sure to be an exciting fight, no matter who comes out on top.
