Keyshawn Davis, the WBO lightweight champion, thinks he can beat Gervonta Davis without breaking a sweat. The undefeated fighter shared his thoughts after watching 'Tank' struggle against Lamont Roach Jr. earlier this month.
Gervonta Davis and Roach fought to a split decision draw at the Barclays Center in New York City. The fight had its share of drama when Davis took a knee in the ninth round, but referee Steve Willis didn't call it a knockdown. This mess-up got Roach's fans pretty upset.
Now, there's talk about Davis and Roach going at it again, maybe in May or June. But nothing's set in stone yet.
Keyshawn Davis, also known as 'The Businessman', just won the WBO lightweight title on February 14. He stopped Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round, grabbing a world title in only his 14th pro fight.
Davis chatted on the Come And Talk 2 Me podcast about potentially facing Gervonta Davis:
"I always felt that when I really do fight him, I think it's gonna be like a little easier than what I project it to be, off of just me knowing me, and my size and what I bring to the table so I always felt like real confident with me getting in the ring with him."
Keyshawn thinks he's got what it takes to be the first boxer to beat 'Tank'. He's pretty sure of himself, giving his chances a 9 out of 10 both before and after the Roach fight.
The young champ believes his size and skills give him an edge. He reckons the fight would be more of a chess match than a slugfest, and he says he's got the smarts to outthink Gervonta.
Gervonta Davis, the 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland, is still unbeaten. But his last showing against Roach didn't wow anyone, and he's been catching flak from all sides because of it.
It looks like Keyshawn Davis is ready to step up and test himself against one of the biggest names in the division. We'll have to wait and see if this fight comes together and if 'The Businessman' can back up his bold claims.
