Lamont Roach Jr has a new option on the table. WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis wants to fight him before Roach's proposed rematch with Gervonta Davis.
Roach and 'Tank' Davis fought to a majority draw in March for the WBA lightweight title. The scorecards read 115-113 for Davis and two 114-114 draws. Some fans think Roach should have won. Davis took a knee in round nine, but the referee didn't count it as a knockdown. A 10-8 round for Roach would have given him the win.
Now, Keyshawn Davis has thrown his hat in the ring. He won the WBO lightweight belt in February with a fourth-round stoppage of Denys Berinchyk. Davis believes a fight with Roach would be a crowd-pleaser.
In a recent interview, Keyshawn Davis said:
"Me and Lamont Roach stylistically is the hottest fight in the weight division. Lamont stood right there with Gervonta, the hardest puncher in the division, so put him up against me, I'm not going nowhere. We're going to fight."
He added:
"Ain't nobody scared of nobody. It's all about the bread at the end of the day. In a perfect world if I can have it like I want to have it, thank god to Lamont Roach for making a name in the 135 division because we needed somebody, let's be real. Now we've got a new person."
Davis has a plan for the division:
"If I had it my way, Shakur and Tank you go ahead and fight, let me fight Lamont. No rematches yet. You will still have to rematch. Have it go me and Lamont and Shakur and Tank."
Despite this offer, Roach and Davis will likely have their rematch this summer. But Keyshawn Davis has made it clear he's ready to shake things up in the lightweight division.
