Daniel Dubois might get another shot at Oleksandr Usyk, and Prince Naseem Hamed thinks it could end badly for the Ukrainian. The former featherweight champion believes Dubois has what it takes to "destroy" Usyk if they meet again.
Dubois first challenged Usyk for the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight titles in Poland last summer. The British fighter knocked Usyk down for the first time in the Ukrainian's career, but the shot was ruled low. Usyk got time to recover and went on to stop Dubois in the ninth round.
Since then, Usyk beat Tyson Fury twice to become undisputed champion. He had to give up the IBF belt before the second Fury fight. Dubois grabbed that vacant title by beating Filip Hrgovic.
Dubois defended his new belt with a knockout win over Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September. He was set to fight again in February but had to pull out due to illness. Joseph Parker stepped in and stopped Martin Bakole in two rounds.
Now, Dubois wants to come back and fight Usyk again. The Ukrainian also wants this fight, as it gives him a chance to become undisputed champion for the third time in his career.
Prince Naseem Hamed thinks Dubois has a real shot. He told The Stomping Ground:
"In my eyes, for me, he's the only one, 'DDD' is the only one who has ever hurt Usuk and put him down on the floor and made him think. He was down there for three or four minutes."
Hamed went on to make a bold prediction about the potential rematch:
"Who's to say once he fights Usyk again he won't go out there and absolutely destroy him and bring the belts back to our country where they should be?"
The former champion thinks Dubois is the only fighter who's really hurt Usyk. He believes Dubois could not only win but "destroy" Usyk if they fight again, bringing the heavyweight belts back to the UK.
