The scorecards read 115-113 for Davis and two 114-114 draws. Roach nearly pulled off a huge upset, coming just one round short of victory against the heavily favored champion.
After the fight, the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) looked into what happened. They decided to keep the result as a draw. This choice didn't sit well with many in boxing. A lot of big names in the sport criticized the decision.
Roach's team submitted an appeal about the fight's outcome. Roach made it clear he wasn't suing anyone. He wanted to set the record straight on social media.
Look man I'm going tell y'all straight up, I ain't sue nobody … MY TEAM submitted an appeal on my behalf. What it look like not having a team that don't pull that trigger on some s**t that they know was wrong? They stood up for me. So all that lawsuit shit y'all can put to rest.
When the NYSAC's final decision came down, Roach wasn't shocked. He felt a bit let down, though. He shared his thoughts online:
I'm not surprised about the decision by the NYSAC. A lil disappointed, yeah. Especially when they ACKNOWLEDGED the fact that Steve made the wrong calls in the 9th round. But I wasn't banking on the overturn. Everyone know I won the fight and I'm satisfied with that. Part 2 on the way.
The WBA might order a rematch right away. Davis likes this idea and could be ready to fight again as soon as May. Both fighters seem eager to settle the score in the ring once more.
