Rolly Romero, a former super lightweight world champion, doesn't think Terence Crawford has a shot against Canelo Alvarez in their upcoming mega-fight.
The boxing world's buzzing about the Canelo-Crawford matchup set for September in Las Vegas. They'll likely duke it out at the Allegiant Stadium for Canelo's WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight belts. Crawford, at 37, wants to add another feather to his cap by becoming a five-weight world champ.
But Romero, who held the WBA title at 140lbs from 2023 to 2024, isn't buying it. He shared his thoughts with ESNEWS:
"All the people who think Crawford would even have a single chance against Canelo, they're f*****g stupid. It's not even close. If anyone truly believes Crawford will beat Canelo I will bet them any amount of money. They have weight classes for a reason."
Romero compared the situation to Floyd Mayweather's fights, pointing out the weight difference between Canelo and Crawford. He stressed that weight classes exist in boxing for good reason.
Crawford's coming off a decision win against Israil Madrimov, but facing Canelo at 168lbs will be a whole new ballgame. Canelo's on a roll, unbeaten in his last five fights, with big wins over Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia.
The super middleweight showdown between Canelo and Crawford will be one of boxing's biggest events. For 'Bud' Crawford, it's shaping up to be the toughest test of his career.
