Daniel Dubois might get another shot at Oleksandr Usyk, and Amir Khan thinks he's got a real chance to win. The former British boxing star sees potential in Dubois despite his loss to Usyk last year.
Khan shared his thoughts in a recent chat with Box Nation. He believes Dubois can learn from his mistakes in the first fight and come back stronger.
"Dubois has a good chance. Daniel Dubois, when I saw his fight against Hrgovic, I said this guy's a beast. He's a good fighter. He's a hard fighter to beat. He'll learn from the mistakes he made in the first fight against Usyk and he'll give him a hard fight. Look, he has the tools to win that fight."
The first bout between Dubois and Usyk took place in Poland in 2023. Usyk won by TKO in the ninth round, but controversy arose in the fifth when Dubois landed what he thought was a legal body shot. The referee ruled it a low blow, giving Usyk time to recover. Dubois and his team felt they were robbed of a potential win.
Since then, Dubois has been on a roll. He's picked up impressive victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua. These wins have caught Khan's eye and boosted his confidence in the 27-year-old heavyweight.
Dubois isn't letting his previous loss hold him back. He confronted Usyk after the Ukrainian's second win over Tyson Fury in December, calling for a rematch. But before any potential Usyk fight, Dubois has business to handle.
On February 22, he'll face Joseph Parker in a crucial heavyweight clash. Parker's coming off a shocking upset win over Deontay Wilder in late 2023, so he'll be full of confidence. The New Zealander will be looking to disrupt heavyweight plans once again.
If Dubois can get past Parker, a rematch with Usyk could be on the cards. The Ukrainian currently holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight titles. Dubois will be eager to unify his belt with Usyk's collection and prove Khan's prediction right.
