Gervonta Davis wants a big payday for a rematch with Ryan Garcia. The Baltimore native has set his price at $150 million to face Garcia again.
Davis and Garcia first met in March 2023 in Las Vegas. The fight ended in the seventh round when Davis landed a body shot that sent Garcia to the canvas. Garcia couldn't beat the count, giving Davis the TKO victory.
Their first bout was a massive success, ranking as the fifth largest gate in Las Vegas boxing history. Both fighters pocketed tens of millions for their efforts.
Since then, Garcia has shown interest in a rematch. He even showed up at Davis' last fight wearing a 'rematch me' t-shirt. Garcia believes the weight and rehydration clause in their first fight held him back.
Davis responded to the rematch talks, saying:
"Hopefully I'll fight Ryan again. If they not on so h* s**t. I'll tax that ass again. Tell them boys to give me 150 [million]. I'm coming. Tell them send that bag and I'm coming."
But there are hurdles to overcome before a rematch can happen. Garcia is currently serving a doping suspension after testing positive around his fight with Devin Haney. He'll be eligible to return in April 2024.
Davis, on the other hand, has announced plans to retire from boxing at the end of 2025. This puts a time limit on when the rematch could take place.
Weight is another issue. Garcia last fought at super-lightweight and struggled to make that limit. Davis has fought at super-lightweight once but prefers to stay lower.
For now, Davis is focused on his upcoming fight. He'll defend his WBA Lightweight World Title against Lamont Roach Jr on March 1, 2024. This follows his recent knockout win over Frank Martin in another title defense.
With Davis' $150 million demand and the other obstacles, it's unclear if fans will get to see these two face off again. But in boxing, where there's money to be made, anything's possible.
