Vasiliy Lomachenko hasn't made any moves in boxing for almost eight months. The IBF lightweight champion's future is up in the air after winning his title last May.
Shakur Stevenson, the WBC lightweight champion, isn't happy about it. He thinks Lomachenko should call it quits.
"Retire. He's not trying to be in no big fights, so why be in the sport?"
Stevenson didn't hold back when he spoke to YouTube channel FightHype. He explained why he's lost respect for the Ukrainian fighter.
"I'm kinda over it. I think he's soft. At that last fight he pushed up on me and was talking kinda reckless but then he don't want to get in a boxing ring and square off.
I have respect for him for what he done in the sport of boxing, but lately I lost a lot of respect for him. I don't even see the point of him boxing if he's not gonna fight me or Tank. What's the point? What are you doing?"
Lomachenko won his IBF title by stopping George Kambosos Jr. Since then, he's been quiet about his next move. This has left boxing fans wanting more, especially since there are big fights to be made in the lightweight division.
Stevenson isn't sitting around waiting. He'll defend his WBC title against Floyd Schofield in February. But the fight everyone wants to see is Stevenson against Gervonta Davis at 135lbs. The two had a famous sparring session years ago, and fans have been waiting for them to meet in the ring ever since.
As for Lomachenko, the ball's in his court. Will he answer Stevenson's challenge? Or will he prove Stevenson right and step away from the sport? Only time will tell.
