Former world champion Mairis Briedis commented on the statement of super heavyweight leader Oleksandr Usyk's desire to return to the first heavyweight division.

"Why did Usyk say he wanted to go back to the cruiserweight division? Why? It's like, let's say I'm working as a CEO at a Bentley showroom and then I say I want to go back to an Audi showroom. Why? You get paid at Bentley, it's more prestigious. My question is, why? Why would he go back to cruiserweight, a weight class that is not that popular?

How does Usyk become an absolute champion if there is no champion who has three belts? You go down, and there now everyone has their belts. How can you unify? Box with all three at once? That's why I'm asking the question: what's the plan? I realize that if Opetaia goes up to the top, to the super featherweights, he'll box out. It's not that easy really. You have to move up, win the belt and then box Usyk.

For me, it would be interesting to see an Opetaia vs Usyk fight, but since there's politics, the whole epic thing, it's not that easy. I wonder what's going to happen next, Dubois or who. But I think Usyk will finish his career and say thank you. If the Saudis pay big money, of course, Usyk will rebound, but I don't think it's a good idea for Oleksandr Usyk," Briedis said on his YouTube channel.
