Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua might finally step into the ring together in 2025. The long-awaited matchup between the British heavyweights has lost some of its shine due to recent losses and the fighters' approaching retirement.
Both Fury and Joshua have tasted defeat twice at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk. Joshua's most recent setback came against Daniel Dubois. These results have cooled the excitement around their potential clash, which has been in the making for years.
Despite the fight being past its prime, it still generates interest. Several fighters who have faced both men have weighed in with their predictions.
Kevin Johnson, who has shared the ring with both, favors Fury. He told IFL TV:
"Tyson Fury has one thing that many people can't beat. It's not skill, Anthony Joshua is definitely the more skillful fighter, but Tyson Fury is so long and in a safety zone with that reach and movement, he made Wladimir Klitschko look like an amateur."
Dillian Whyte, who has also fought both men, couldn't pick a winner. He told DAZN:
"There's a case for both guys winning this fight. Both guys showed a lot of versatility in their last two fights."
Wladimir Klitschko, however, backs Joshua. The former champion said:
"Hands down Joshua. He is getting to be the complete fighter. Technically, size-wise, weight-wise, power-wise. And he is a good learner."
Otto Wallin, who has faced both fighters, slightly favors Fury. He told Sun Sport:
"I still have a hard time going against Tyson in that fight."
Francis Ngannou, who recently fought Fury, leans towards Joshua. He told IFL TV:
"I don't know, I would give it to AJ right now."
Oleksandr Usyk, who has beaten both men, also picks Joshua. He told Boxing King Media:
"Maybe Anthony Joshua. Maybe [on] points."
The opinions are split, with three favoring Joshua, two backing Fury, and one undecided. The fight, if it happens, promises to be a closely contested affair, even if it's not the mega-event it once could have been.
