Oleksandr Usyk plans to return to the cruiserweight division after his rematch with Tyson Fury this Saturday. The Ukrainian boxer shared his intentions in a recent interview, showing he's still got big goals in the sport.
Usyk's boxing career is already packed with incredible achievements. He won gold at the London 2012 Olympics as an amateur. After turning pro, he quickly made his mark in the cruiserweight division. Within six years, he became the undisputed four-belt champion and won the Muhammad Ali trophy in the World Boxing Super Series.
But Usyk didn't stop there. He moved up to heavyweight and in just six fights, he grabbed three major world titles. He beat Anthony Joshua twice, took down Daniel Dubois, and most recently, defeated Tyson Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Right now, Usyk holds three heavyweight titles after giving up the IBF belt. He's getting ready to face Fury again this Saturday in Saudi Arabia. But it looks like the Ukrainian fighter is already thinking about what's next.
In a chat shared on Sky Sports Boxing's X page, Usyk said:
"I'll try cruiserweight again. Yeah, yeah, I try."
If Usyk goes back to cruiserweight, he'll find a new set of champions to face. Jai Opetaia currently holds The Ring Magazine and IBF titles. Gilberto Ramirez has the WBA and WBO belts, while Norair Mikaeljan is the WBC champ.
Meanwhile, Fury will try to bounce back from the only loss in his pro career when he faces Usyk on Saturday. The rematch promises to be a big event, but it looks like Usyk is already planning his next move in the boxing world.
