Canelo Alvarez might face Terence Crawford after all. Saudi chief Turki Al-Alshikh has given the fight a chance, but there's a catch.
Alvarez, the unified super-middleweight world champion, defended his belts against Edgar Berlanga in September. He's now looking at his next fight, which will likely happen in May during the Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
Crawford, on the other hand, moved up to super-welterweight in August. He beat Israil Madrimov and grabbed the WBA title. Now, he's willing to jump up to 168lbs to take on Canelo.
Al-Alshikh tried to set up this fight earlier but stopped when Canelo didn't want to talk before his Berlanga bout. Now, he's ready to try again. In an interview, Al-Alshikh said:
"I don't know anyone now from the Canelo teams and I don't have any connection, but if he's hearing me. I'm ready to discuss but I want to discuss me and him directly without anyone in the middle."
So, Al-Alshikh wants to talk to Canelo face-to-face, with no one else involved. This could be good news for fans who want to see this fight happen.
Some people have criticized Canelo lately. One fighter, who didn't give their name, said Canelo turned down $70 million to fight an undefeated former world champion.
The weight difference between Canelo and Crawford is big, but Crawford seems ready for the challenge. If Al-Alshikh and Canelo can work things out, we might see this exciting match-up in the future.
