Mike Tyson's glove-biting habit caught Evander Holyfield's attention during Tyson's recent fight with Jake Paul. Holyfield shared his thoughts on what this behavior means.
Holyfield and Tyson have a long history in the ring. They first faced each other in 1997, with Holyfield winning by TKO in the 11th round. Their second fight in 1998 became known as the 'bite fight'. Tyson bit Holyfield's ear in the third round. The referee let the fight continue at first, but stopped it when he saw blood at the end of the round. Tyson later said he did it because he was frustrated with Holyfield's headbutts.
In Tyson's recent fight against Jake Paul, he was seen biting his gloves throughout the match. It turned out to be a tough night for the former champ, as he lost to Paul in what many called a controversial contest.
Holyfield had some interesting thoughts about Tyson's glove-biting. In a video interview, he said:
"Once he start biting on his gloves, this is when he gets nervous. When he gets nervous he bites on the gloves. He can't figure it out."
Holyfield thinks Tyson bites his gloves when he's feeling nervous and can't come up with a good strategy.
After the fight, Tyson joked that he has "a biting fixation". When Holyfield suggested they should have a third fight, Tyson politely said no.
It looks like Tyson might hang up his gloves for good after this fight. He showed his age and struggled to keep up with Paul, so retirement could be on the cards.
