Tyson Fury has changed his tune about his first fight with Oleksandr Usyk. The heavyweight boxing stars will face off again on Saturday, December 21, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
After their initial bout, Fury didn't agree with the judges' decision. He watched the fight many times and still felt he'd won. In a video, he explained his view:
"I've watched the fight back lots of times and still got the same answer, I thought I won the fight, I thought I did enough."
Fury claimed he only gave Usyk four rounds of the fight. He broke down the bout round by round and said, "I thought I boxed the head right off him for most of the rounds."
But now, as they get ready for their rematch, Fury's changed his mind. At the press conference to announce the fight, he admitted Usyk won fair and square. He said:
"Last time in May it was a fantastic fight, Oleksandr won the fight fair and square. It wasn't my time to win or else the all mighty would have given me the victory. I'm very happy that Usyk got the decision because God's timing is not late, it's not imperfect, it's perfection. So that was meant to be, and we'll find out what's meant to be on December 21."
The first fight was a big deal. Usyk won by split decision and became the first undisputed heavyweight champion in nearly 25 years. Now, both fighters are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting rematch.
Fury also talked about other boxers like Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois during the press conference. He made a bold prediction about the rematch, too. But for now, all eyes are on December 21, when these two heavyweight giants will step into the ring once again.
