Dmitry Bivol Raises Eyebrows With Candid Take on Canelo's Latest Win: "Unexpected"

Dmitry Bivol has shared his thoughts on Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's recent victory over Edgar Berlanga. The fight, which took place last month, saw Canelo retain his unified super-middleweight world titles with a wide points decision and a knockdown.

Bivol, who handed Canelo his second career loss back in 2022, didn't watch the entire fight. He told Fight Hub TV:

"I didn't watch the full fight to be honest. I saw the knockdown with the left hook. It was a really good knockdown. It was his signature, to make you think he wants to get to the body but he [throws] a hook. But I didn't watch the full fight because I don't need to watch [his] fights for [my] preparation."

The light-heavyweight boxer praised Canelo's signature move, which caught Berlanga off guard and led to the knockdown.

Talks of a potential rematch between Canelo and Bivol have been circulating, but Bivol's focus lies elsewhere. He's got his sights set on an upcoming fight against Artur Beterbiev on October 12 for the undisputed light-heavyweight championship.

Bivol explained:

"I don't think about Canelo because I have my fight. We had one and a half years waiting, does he want to fight or doesn't he? It was only talks and no action. It's a closed subject. I'm busy now with Beterbiev and we will see what will happen after."

Previous discussions about a rematch fell apart due to disagreements over weight. Bivol wanted to move down and challenge for Canelo's belts, while Canelo preferred a return to light-heavyweight, the setting of their first encounter.

For now, Canelo's future plans include a desire for a rematch with Bivol. But that will have to wait as both fighters focus on their immediate challenges ahead.
