WBA Reveals Gervonta Davis' Next Opponent: "It's Not Who You Think"
Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach on December 14. The WBA made the announcement official, setting up an interesting clash between two champions.
'Tank' Davis last fought in June, stopping Frank Martin in the seventh round in Las Vegas. The lightweight champ has been looking for his next challenge since then.
There was talk about a possible fight with Shakur Stevenson, but that didn't work out. Instead, Davis will face Roach, who's moving up from super-featherweight for this bout.
Roach won the WBA super-featherweight title last November. He beat Hector Luis Garcia by split decision, improving his record to 25 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw.
The WBA gave Roach special permission to move up in weight for this fight. NoXcuse Boxing Promotions asked for this on September 13. The WBA talked it over with Albert Batyrgaziev's team, who was next in line for a shot at Roach's 130-pound title.
The WBA set some rules for this fight. If Roach wins, he'll have 5 days to choose which title he wants to keep and defend. If he loses, he'll have to fight the top 130-pound challenger within 120 days.

If Davis comes out on top, we might see him face Stevenson in 2025. That would be a big fight for boxing fans to look forward to.
