Devin Haney Weighs In On Gervonta Davis vs Teofimo Lopez: "I've Felt Their Power"

None

Teofimo Lopez wants to fight Gervonta Davis this year. The former lightweight champion called out the current WBA title holder, setting the stage for a potential high-profile match.

Lopez moved up to 140 pounds after his reign with four belts at lightweight. He's now the WBO super-lightweight champion, having won the title from Josh Taylor and defended it twice. But Lopez doesn't have a date or opponent lined up at the moment.

Davis, known as 'Tank', holds the WBA Lightweight World Title. He got this belt after Devin Haney left it vacant. In his first defense, Davis beat the previously undefeated Frank Martin. Dan Rafael reports that Davis will likely face Lamont Roach on December 21.

Maliek Montgomery, an undefeated super-featherweight, shared his thoughts on the potential match-up. Montgomery has history with both fighters. He faced Lopez as an amateur in 2015 and recently sparred with Davis. In an interview with Sean Zittel, Montgomery favored Davis in the potential fight.

"I would still probably give the edge to Tank in that fight … just because that power is an equaliser, and it doesn't help the fact that he has a great boxing IQ also. So it's a part of now you gotta go twelve rounds of dealing with somebody who can box, has all those attributes, but also has that type of power that they can hit you one time and change the whole tempo of the fight."

Montgomery pointed out that Davis' power could change the fight at any moment. He also praised Davis' boxing skills and intelligence in the ring.

The fight would pit two of boxing's most exciting young stars against each other. Lopez has proven himself at both lightweight and super-lightweight. Davis has shown his knockout power in multiple weight classes. If it happens, fans will get to see if Lopez's skills can overcome Davis' power and ring IQ.
