Top Rank CEO Bob Arum Reveals His "Nightmare Matchups" for Gervonta Davis: "He's Not Ready"

Gervonta Davis, the WBA Lightweight World Champion, has knocked out 28 of his 30 opponents. Only two fighters have gone the distance with 'Tank' - German Meraz in a four-round bout early in Davis' career, and Isaac Cruz, who benefited from Davis injuring his hand midway through their fight.

Bob Arum, the 92-year-old veteran promoter, believes he knows three fighters who can beat Davis. In an interview with Boxing Scene, Arum said:

"Tank Davis is an excellent fighter and a big attraction. So sure we'd like to match [Stevenson, Lomachenko, and Lopez] against Tank Davis and see how well they would do. I like our guys to win the fight … All three would beat Davis. I really believe that … but that's why they do the fights, right? Again, we're open to any of that."

Arum added:

"I think [Davis] is the real deal. That's why we're talking about him. He's a helluva performer. A terrific athlete, and a terrific boxer, but so are the other three [Stevenson, Lomachenko, and Lopez.]"

Shakur Stevenson, the WBC Lightweight World Champion, recently signed with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom. He's set to fight Joe Cordina on October 12, with plans to face William Zepeda, the number one contender, afterwards. A clash with fellow undefeated American Davis could follow.

Vasiliy Lomachenko, the IBF champion, is taking a break for the rest of 2024 due to lack of motivation. Earlier this year, Arum had started talks with Davis' team about a potential fight with Lomachenko.

Teofimo Lopez, the champion at super-lightweight, is expected to move up to welterweight. He remains under contract with Top Rank, Arum's promotion company.

Davis is expected to return to the ring later this year but might struggle to find a worthy opponent. With his impressive knockout record, 'Tank' has established himself as one of boxing's most feared punchers.
