Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has spoken out about David Benavidez's move to light heavyweight and the possibility of a future fight between them. The Mexican superstar's comments come as fans and pundits continue to discuss a potential match-up between the two fighters.

Benavidez, a former super middleweight champion, recently stepped up to light heavyweight. He won the interim title in the division with a victory over Oleksandr Gvozdyk. The American fighter plans to stay at 175 pounds and is eyeing a fight with the winner of the upcoming undisputed contest between Artur Beterbiev and Dimitry Bivol in October.

Canelo, however, doesn't seem impressed by Benavidez's performance at the higher weight class. In a recent interview with Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry, Alvarez shared his thoughts on Benavidez's light heavyweight debut:

"I think it's his weight class, the weight class 175. You can see he's very different, he can do nothing with a fighter who retired in 2019 and came with two easy fights. Look, it's different when you are in your weight class and fighting with guys in your weight."

When asked about potential negotiations for a fight with Benavidez, Canelo made it clear he won't entertain any discussions until after his next bout:

"I'm in the business. I can do the fights that are better for me. If the money is right it's OK but I like to be conformable, I like to be in peace. They like to talk to me when I have a fight and I don't like to work in that way. After the fight with Berlanga, we can talk and see and make everything sense. I'm not begging for anything, I don't need anything, I'm doing my own business I'm good. So if you want to make that fight OK, we can talk after the fight."

Canelo's comments suggest he's open to the possibility of facing Benavidez, but only on his own terms and timeline. The Mexican champion has expressed interest in moving back up to light heavyweight himself, despite a previous loss to Bivol in the division.

For now, fans will have to wait and see how things unfold after Canelo's upcoming fight with Berlanga. The boxing world will be watching closely to see if a showdown between Alvarez and Benavidez finally materializes in the future.
