Shakur Stevenson thinks Gervonta Davis will beat Vasiliy Lomachenko if they fight, but he's not completely sure. The lightweight division's got fans talking about fights between its top champions.
Davis holds the WBA title and Lomachenko's got the IBF belt. Davis just knocked out Frank Martin in June to keep his title. Lomachenko won his IBF strap in May.
There's been talk about Davis and Lomachenko fighting, but it's on hold. Lomachenko's team says he's not motivated to fight this year, but that doesn't mean he's retiring.
Stevenson shared his thoughts on the potential match-up in an interview with DAZN Boxing. He thinks Lomachenko's past his best but still top-notch.
"Lomachenko's still Lomachenko. He is past his prime but he's still a high-level fighter. He's still elite. When I watched him against Kambosos I'm like this dude still [got it]."
Stevenson reckons Davis will win, but it won't be easy.
"Yeah, I do [think Tank beats him]. But I think he could pose some problems or issues to Tank that we ain't never seen before. No, I wouldn't [be shocked if he beats Tank]."
But Stevenson's not happy with how Lomachenko's picking his fights.
"But that's why I'm disappointed in the way he's moving, because with his skill level you supposed to be 'anybody can get it, what up?' He ain't moving like that."
Stevenson's got his own big plans. He's signed with Matchroom and Eddie Hearn. He'll fight Joe Cordina on October 12. After that, he wants William Zepeda and then hopes to face Gervonta Davis.
Davis is set to return to the ring in November, but his opponent hasn't been named yet.
Lomachenko's recent win over Kambosos showed he's still got what it takes, setting up an exciting future for the lightweight division.
