Dmitry Bivol, the last man to beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, has shared his thoughts on a potential fight between Canelo and Terence Crawford. The WBA light-heavyweight champion's opinion carries weight, given he's one of only two fighters to defeat Canelo in his 65-fight career.
Bivol soundly beat Canelo over 12 rounds in 2022, retaining his title and cementing his place among boxing's elite. Now, he's preparing for an undisputed fight against Artur Beterbiev in Saudi Arabia this October.
In a recent interview with FightHub TV, Bivol weighed in on the possibility of Crawford challenging Canelo:
"I remember when I came to the boxing gym one of the first lessons I learnt was you should respect weight classes. But Terence is one of my favourite active fighters. He has good skills, very good skills, maybe he could show us something. He knows already what to do, his coach knows, they will find a solution how to do it."
When asked if he could imagine Crawford winning against Canelo, Bivol simply replied, "I can imagine it."
The Russian fighter, known for his textbook boxing techniques and great footwork, praised Crawford's abilities further in an interview with Seconds Out:
"I could tell you that Crawford is one of the best fighters in the world right now. I see him with more boxing IQ."
Crawford has made it clear he's only interested in facing Canelo next, despite other potential opponents like Vergil Ortiz and Jaron 'Boots' Ennis waiting in the wings.
As the boxing world debates this potential matchup, Bivol's insights add an interesting perspective. He controlled his fight with Canelo using his jab from distance, and he sees similar potential in Crawford's skillset.
Bivol's victory over Canelo in 2022 proved that the Mexican star isn't invincible. Now, with Crawford eyeing a similar feat, the boxing world waits to see if this intriguing matchup will come to fruition.
