Canelo Drops Bombshell About Fighter's Injury: "He Deserved It"

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is opening up more about his feelings towards opponents. The four-weight world champion recently shared some surprising thoughts about a past fight.

Canelo's improved English skills have allowed him to engage more with the media and his rivals. He's gotten into verbal spats with opponents, traded words with Demetrius Andrade after a fight, and even cut Caleb Plant at a press conference after an insult.

In a recent chat with PBC, Canelo didn't hold back when talking about his 2021 fight with Billy Joe Saunders.

"Billy Joe Saunders – that f***er p***ed me off, that's why he got what he deserved. Some fighters talk to sell a fight, but I think he's a bad person and I really enjoyed beating that guy."

Saunders had tried to get under Canelo's skin during fight week. He and his team complained about the ring size and even threatened to pull out at the last minute.

The fight didn't go Saunders' way. In the eighth round, Canelo landed a powerful uppercut that fractured Saunders' eye socket. Saunders couldn't continue and retired on his stool. He hasn't fought since.

Canelo, who's had 65 fights in his career, usually keeps his cool. But his comments show he can hold a grudge.

The Mexican champion's next fight might be against Edgar Berlanga, who's also trying to provoke him. We'll have to wait and see if Canelo responds the same way he did with Saunders.

Premier Boxing Champions shared a tweet about Canelo's revelation:

Victory is the best revenge. ???? @Canelo reveals the one opponent who pissed him off more than any other. ???? #CaneloSaunders #CaneloBerlanga

It looks like Canelo's not afraid to speak his mind these days. His fans might see more of this outspoken side as he continues his career.
