Froch Drops Bombshell on Wardley-Clarke Outcome: "The Judges Got It Wrong"

George Fields Aug. 22, 2024, 6:10 a.m.

The first fight took place at the O2 in London. It was a tough 12-round battle that lived up to the hype of a British Heavyweight Title clash. Both fighters had their moments in a back-and-forth contest. Clarke landed some accurate shots and hurt Wardley's nose, while Wardley scored the only knockdown of the fight.

Carl Froch, the former super-middleweight champion, shared his thoughts on the Froch on Fighting podcast. He felt Clarke won the first fight.

"I thought on the night he nicked it. Everyone says scoring's subjective but I thought on the night Frazer Clarke did the job."

Froch wasn't happy about the rematch taking place in Saudi Arabia. He said:

"I don't want to criticise for the sake of criticising but that first one was at the O2 in London. The atmosphere was electric ... This one now is in Saudi Arabia and I do think a rematch in Britain for the British Heavyweight Title, that's where it should be."

When asked to pick a winner for the rematch, Froch leaned towards Clarke but wasn't too sure.

"I can't really pick a winner, but I'm leaning towards Frazer Clarke. ... This is gonna be a close fight. It's gonna be down to who puts the hard work in before."

The rematch will be part of a big boxing event in Riyadh. The main fight of the night will be Artur Beterbiev against Dmitry Bivol. Other fights on the card include Shakur Stevenson versus Joe Cordina and Chris Eubank Jr's return to the ring. Skye Nicolson and Raven Chapman will make history as the first women to fight on a Riyadh Season card.

Wardley has fought in Saudi Arabia before. He beat David Adeleye there last year. For Clarke, this will be his first time fighting outside the UK as a pro.

The stage is set for another exciting battle between these two British heavyweights. Fans can't wait to see if someone will come out on top this time or if we'll see another close fight.
