Oleksandr Usyk Reveals Fight-Winning Strategy Against Tyson Fury: "It Worked"

None

Oleksandr Usyk became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in May 2023. The Ukrainian boxer beat Tyson Fury on points after 12 rounds in Saudi Arabia, adding to his already impressive list of achievements.

Usyk's road to the top started back in 2012 when he won an Olympic Gold Medal at the London Games. He then went on to become the undisputed cruiserweight champion in 2018 before moving up to heavyweight. His skills in footwork, ring IQ, and athleticism have put him at the top of many pound-for-pound lists.

The fight against Fury wasn't just a lucky break. Usyk spent nine months working on a specific technique - his powerful left hand.

"It was a planned action that I worked on for nine months. It was necessary to immediately show who the boss is in the ring."

This preparation paid off in the ninth round when Usyk landed a strong left that sent Fury to the canvas for a 10 count.

Usyk's training routines are as unique as they are effective. He's known to juggle in the ring, do balance exercises, catch coins, and even play chess to keep his mind sharp. These unconventional methods seem to work well for the Ukrainian champion.

The victory over Fury made Usyk the first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion. However, he's had to vacate the IBF belt since then.

Now, Usyk is gearing up for a rematch with Fury in December 2023. In an interview with Mail Sport Boxing, Usyk shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight:

"I think it will be even more difficult. Look, I always set myself up for a hard night, never an easy one. I'm expecting the cosmos that will crush me so only my eyes will see what happening. I get pumped for such things. I don't think that it will be easier for me, but I don't need it to be easier."

Usyk's mindset shows he's not resting on his laurels. He's preparing for an even tougher fight, which is a testament to his strong mental game. With three of the four major belts on the line, the rematch promises to be another thrilling chapter in heavyweight boxing history.
