Stevenson, who holds the WBC lightweight title, is known for his slick moves and strong defense. He's currently a free agent, which means he can fight anyone without promotional issues getting in the way. Right now, he's looking at a possible bout with William Zepeda, the number one contender.
On the other side, we've got Davis, the WBA lightweight champ. Fans call him 'Tank' because of the way he stalks his opponents and knocks them out. He's put away all but two of the fighters he's faced. Davis doesn't have his next fight lined up yet, after talks for a rematch with Isaac Cruz didn't work out.
In a recent chat with All The Smoke Fight, Stevenson talked about why this fight matters so much.
"It's kind of bigger than boxing I guess you could say cause of the history and everything that went on. It's hard to even speak on it just because of the face that we gotta to fight … I know it's gonna happen. I'm the best, he's the best. You've got two guys that are the best, how can you not fight? … I'm ready for it, he ready for it, we're both in our primes. It can happen next. It can happen next year. Whenever he say let's fight, that's it."
Stevenson thinks the only way this fight won't happen is if one of them loses before they can make it happen. He gives Davis props too, saying, "He's strategic. He's setting guys up. He's been boxing since he was a little kid just like I've been boxing since I was a little kid. You can tell with the experience."
Some folks have wondered if either fighter is scared to make this bout happen. Stevenson shot down those ideas on Twitter, saying, "Get to it it or die trying, Fear is fake don't fear failure long as u always give 110 percent u can live with the results ???????? #ChasingGreatness"
Both fighters hold titles in the lightweight division, making this match-up even more interesting. Fans are eager to see how Stevenson's defense would stand up to Davis' power punches. For now, we'll have to wait and see if these two champs will finally face off in the ring.
