Canelo Alvarez Reveals His Toughest Opponent: "He Was Different From Anyone Else"

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has opened up about the toughest challenges he's faced in the ring. The Mexican superstar, who's fought 65 times and won world titles in four weight classes, shared his thoughts in a recent chat with Million Dollaz Worth of Game.

Canelo's been in with some of the best. He's traded punches with Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Danny Jacobs, and Sergey Kovalev. But when asked about his most difficult opponent, Canelo didn't hesitate.

"I have a lot of them, but my most difficult fight was with Floyd Mayweather. Hardest fight? It's with Golovkin, yeah."

The Mayweather fight happened when Canelo was just 23. They met at a catchweight of 152 pounds, and Mayweather won by majority decision. It's one of only two losses on Canelo's record, with the other coming more recently against Dmitry Bivol at light-heavyweight.

As for his hardest fight, Canelo picked his rival Gennady Golovkin. The two warriors fought three times, with their first bout ending in a controversial split draw. Canelo won the next two, but it's clear GGG left a lasting impression.

But when it comes to pure punching power, Canelo surprised everyone by naming James Kirkland as the hardest hitter he's faced.

"Everybody can say Golovkin but I never feel that bad. Kirkland. He hit my arms and it felt like rocks. I said you know I need to finish that guy right now."

Canelo didn't waste any time with Kirkland, finishing the fight in just three rounds.

Now, Canelo's gearing up for his next challenge. He'll defend his unified super-middleweight titles against undefeated contender Edgar Berlanga on September 14. It's another chance for Canelo to prove why he's the biggest star in boxing today.
