David Avanesyan has fought both Terence Crawford and Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, giving him a unique view on two of boxing's top welterweights.
Crawford has been on a roll lately. He became the undisputed welterweight champion by beating Errol Spence Jr. Then he moved up to super-welterweight and won a world title in his fourth weight class by defeating Israil Madrimov.
On the other hand, Philadelphia's Ennis has built up an impressive record of 32 wins with 29 knockouts. Many see him as the biggest threat to Crawford at welterweight or super-welterweight.
Avanesyan fought both men recently. Ennis stopped him in the fifth round, while Crawford finished the job in the sixth round two years ago.
Carl Greaves, Avanesyan's trainer, shared his thoughts on the two fighters:
"Boots Ennis is the more busy, more active fighter in my opinion. He's a bit younger and a bit fresher. On the other hand, Crawford is very, very patient. His timing is very good and he plans just the right attacks at just the right times whereas Ennis was more busy."
Avanesyan himself had some interesting insights. Greaves relayed:
"I was talking to David and he said that Crawford hits harder but that 'Boots' Ennis was a bit sharper and busier."
Crawford's recent fight with Madrimov ended his knockout streak, raising questions about his power at the higher weight. But his win still proved he's a force to be reckoned with in yet another division.
As for Ennis, his fifth-round stoppage of Avanesyan showed he's got the skills to hang with the best. His youth and activity might give Crawford a run for his money if they ever meet in the ring.
Both fighters have shown they're at the top of their game. It'll be exciting to see how their careers continue to unfold and if they'll eventually face off against each other.
