On May 18, the Ukrainian defeated the Briton by a split decision of judges and became the absolute world champion in the heavyweight division.
- I believe that the Ukrainian rightfully became the absolute champion. Oleksandr Usyk proved that with his refined technique, fantastic speed of movement in the ring he is invincible when the fight lasts all 12 rounds.
His accurate shots and phenomenal defense are impressive. Believe me, it is simply unrealistic to defeat Usyk on points.
- Did the confrontation in Saudi Arabia justify your expectations?
- Yes, it was a fight of outstanding athletes. In my opinion, Usyk has never faced boxers of Fury's level before in his long career. In general, the fight was like a ride on a seesaw, it was hard to favor anyone, but the Ukrainian, in my opinion, was more accurate.
- Did Tyson surprise you in any way?
- He prepared very well for the fight. I thought he would adopt a dirty style, hovering over the Ukrainian due to his size. But the Briton showed quite clean boxing. Of course, this made it somewhat easier for Usyk, although Fury is very strong. The victory over such a giant is all the more pleasant.
- Did you notice any turning points in the fight?
- Of course, it was Usyk's outburst in the ninth round, when Fury was even knocked down. Further Alexander dictated the terms.
I also think that the rounds in the middle of the fight were decisive, when it was difficult for Usyk, but he endured the onslaught of the Briton, showing indestructible character and gradually tipped the scales to his side. Well done. Usyk's victory is very important at this difficult time for Ukraine.
