Georgian amateur boxer Lasha Guruli told how representatives of Russia tried to bribe him ahead of the final fight of the European Boxing Championships, in which he met Russian Tarkhan Idigov.
"On the eve of the fight we were offered a large sum of money. They didn't want me to enter the ring. When they got the final answer, they said they would pursue this victory at all costs. My strategy was to work from a distance so there was no opportunity to exchange punches. The Russian lost the first round by distance and I didn't think the judges had a choice, but they still gave him a 4-1 lead," Inside the Games quoted Guruli as saying.
It should be noted that Guruli did not come out for the 3rd round in protest against unfair judging.
