Vergil Ortiz Jr., holding an undefeated record of 21-0 with every win coming by knockout, confidently stated after his last match, "We are not scared of anybody. I am not scared to fight anyone, but I am going to beat them." His father, Vergil Ortiz Sr., echoed this sentiment saying, "We are going for war." These remarks came following Ortiz Jr.'s first-round knockout victories against Thomas Dulorme last Saturday and Fredrick Lawson in January.
On the other side, Tim Tszyu comes into the fight with a record of 24-1, having 17 wins by knockouts. He faced his first career defeat against Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas on March 30, where he fought through a significant injury resulting from a bad cut for 10 rounds before losing by split decision.
