Sad news came today - Gary Shaw passed away at the age of 79 after a long illness with prostate cancer. Boxing fans associate him primarily as one of the strongest promoters in the world, however, he appeared in boxing much earlier and before that he managed to try himself in different roles.

Gary Shaw has been a member of the New Jersey Sports Commission since 1971. At the end of the last century he became the chief operating officer of Main Events, and in 2002 he managed to organize the long-awaited fight between Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. Only later he founded his own promotional organization, Gary Shaw Productions, which handled the careers of such boxers as Shane Mosley, Timothy Bradley, Ronald "Winky" Wright, Fernando Vargas, Arturo Gatti, Manny Pacquiao and Diego Corrales.
