WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs), who is set to return tonight after a 2.5-year layoff, failed to make his contractual limit of 163 pounds for his fight with Jose Benavidez Jr. (28-2-1, 19 KOs).

The American was over the limit by 3.4 pounds (1.5 kg). The fight will take place in any case, but part of Charlo’s fee will now go to Benavidez. In addition, the WBC champion will be weighed again in the morning, US time, and if it turns out that he gained more than 10 pounds (4.5 kg) overnight, his purse will be cut even more.

Commenting on his excess weight, Jermall Charlo directly stated that before the fight with Benavidez, he had a training camp lasting only 3 weeks.
