Whittaker proposes stripping Jones of heavyweight title

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker shared his thoughts on the difficult situation that has developed in the heavy division of the promotion.

Let us remind you that the champion in this category Jon Jones suffered a torn pectoral muscle and will not return for at least eight months. Whittaker believes that the UFC should strip the American of his belt and give Tom Aspinall, who previously won the title of interim champion.

“I think it’s wrong to leave the division to an interim champion for eight months. This will be a difficult time for the UFC. This is one of those moments where promotion management will have to do some shenanigans. People don't like all this.

I think the most effective solution would be to strip Jones of the title and make Aspinall a full champion so he could defend the belt. Obviously, when Jones comes back, he will be able to get a championship fight right away,” Whittaker told MMArcade.
