Former interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje explained why he should be the next opponent of the current holder of the full belt Islam Makhacheva.

Let us remind you that yesterday, October 21, Makhachev knocked out Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of the UFC 294 tournament in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“Islam can be defeated. Against him, I'm going to give it my all, as always. I definitely have to become Makhachev’s opponent. I'm number two in the ranking, I knocked out Poirier. Oliveira is higher than me in the rankings, but he already lost to Makhachev. But I didn’t fight Islam.

This will be a new confrontation that fans want to see. And he will dominate Oliveira just as much as he did in their first fight. Yes, Islam is not Khabib, but I still want to resolve this issue,” the American said in an interview with ESPN MMA.
