WBA statement: Dubois hit Usyk with a low blow

The World Boxing Association (WBA) after the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois published an official statement, reacting to the victory of the Ukrainian boxer.

“There was a dramatic moment in the fight when Dubois delivered a low blow, from which Usyk fell to the canvas. The area he hit sparked controversy about the legality of the hit, but the referee ruled that the hit had landed below the belt and gave Usyk the necessary recovery time to continue the fight...,” the statement reads.

Thus, the organization recognizes that Dubois landed an illegal blow in the fifth round and the referee of the fight did the right thing, giving Usyk time to recover.

Earlier, Dubois, his coach and team said that Daniel was robbed, that he hit Usyk in the stomach and the referee had to open the score. They also announced that they would file a protest against the result of the battle.

Recall that Oleksandr Usyk finished Daniel Dubois in the ninth round, defending his WBA, WBO, IBF championship belts.
