Absolute World Lightweight Champion Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) asked for a few more days to decide on his future career. The WBC initially gave the American until Friday to decide in which weight class the American would fight next.

Now the deadline for making a decision has been extended to Thursday. If Haney remains at lightweight, the World Boxing Council will order negotiations for his fight with Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs), a former world champion in two weight categories and the current official contender in the weight category up to 61 kg.

A 24-year-old boxer may also decide to move up to super lightweight and fight Regis Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs), WBC champion in this weight category. Such a fight could take place in October in the USA. In this situation, the WBC lightweight belt is likely to become vacant.
